I generally do not point people at AntennaWeb for that reason. The FCC database is generally pretty accurate (though it likes to keep outdated records active), their formula is just very conservative.

I would think that their conservative estimates are causing people to spend more on antennas. Not sure if I like their color codes lumping everyone into a category based on such a broad scale either. I know that TVFool does the same but it doesn't specify a "Medium" sized antenna or "large" like antennaweb.org...just seems like there are many other variables that need to be known before such such a recommendation can be made.
