I remember those sign off as a kid, that was classy to do that. Even more over I remember no station staying on all night. Some radio but no TV.

Interestingly enough WKMG signed off during the end of noon news. Then came back on the air nightlighting, changing their minds at the last minute.

WFTV did a cool sign off though it was hard to see through all the noise on the frequency (mainly WNBW). They showed a slide of a cat with a red dot with a red circle around it. It was very very poor reception so I didn't get the significance of the cat (drawing that looked like the old Felix the Cat). They thanked all viewers
for watching them for the last 51 years on analog. Then they faded slowly over about 20 seconds, figuring they might have been powering down tubes. WTFV remained silent and I hope they are dismantling the transmitter as I type to be sold to a long way away.
