If it were from some local news outlet, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt for not knowing enough about that, but this is multichannel.com we're talking about here.
Edit: Wait now that I remember, the
FCC did tell people about UHF to VHF Piggie! 1 week before the
digital transition!

The UHF to VHF switch should have had it's own transition rather than switch on June 12. That way the
FCC could have had time to prepare everyone for that too. Just my $.02.
