My wife continued to use IE for years after I switched to Fx. She continued to get viruses even with anti-virus software.
I told her she had to switch to Fx. That was over 2 years ago. Now when I check her virus and spyware programs they have not even trapped anything.
I was a Netscape person for years, then they put themselves out of business trying to sue MS. Soon their old version 3 was out of date and IE5 did indeed pass them by to the point I had to switch to IE which I had never even used before. But a few years later Fx (same people as Netscape to a large degree) came out and I tried and the same day never went back to IE.
Now when I set up a new machine or reinstall windows, I don't even bother to set up IE. Still if you don't use IE you need to do the IE updates from MS as IE is so deeply intertwined with Windows, you can end up with problems not applying patches. I left XP at IE6 and MS keeps sending patches for it. In other words, I don't mean upgrade the version but do the patches to what ever IE you have now.
