Default Setting up TV

Recently, we purchased a new Toshiba TV set to update from the old rabbit ears TV set used to pick up the analog signal. But right now, we are in some confusion. What I thought about these TVs isn't working. There is no traditional cable provider out here, being out in the country, it is too far for cable from the city. However, there is Dish Network, but the TV isn't being hooked up to that. Where I live, we don't have to worry about that, because we have cable, so this doesn't affect me, but it is my grandparents. There is no box, but it's just an antenae. Does there need to be an antenae plus a converter box or just what? We picked up four channels, and only two of them will really display, and one analog channel.
