Default AppleTV

Can somebody please explain to me for what I am needing "Apple TV"?

My husband wants to buy it and I really do not understand for what it is good for.

Do you need it for something special?

I've looked into it a bit. It's basically a media PC for your TV. You can rent movies, shows, watch you tube videos, and look at flickr pictures.

Pretty much everything you can do with a laptop and a HDMI cord too, except it's much easier to use.

One big advantage for Apple TV is that one computer in your home can have its iTunes library synced to it. Once synced, the computer which has your Itunes library won't have to be turned on to watch Apple TV (with the same libraryof songs).

Here's the link to Apple's page for it Apple - Apple TV

There are a lot of hacks for Apple TV, including ripping blu-ray DVDs to the Apple TV in HD.

I'm mildly interested in it, but like CptlA kind of mentioned, I've got a PC that I connect to the TV for watching vids.

IMO, I have no plans of paying Apple tax on features that can easily be done with any of my PC systems.
