Will this be a good move for Adobe and enable it to broaden its horizons? Or is this an admission that Flash is deprecated and doomed to certain death?

I think Adobe is moving in the right direction...there's no doubt that Apple will continue to gain market share in the mobile device niche, especially now that the iPhone and iPad 2 can be used on Verizon's wireless network.

Some of the opinions on this are that Adobe is giving up on Flash. Not true. I think people seem to forget that Adobe is not just Flash. Adobe makes authoring tools such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop. And this offering is just that - a plugin for an authoring tool. It's NOT a tool to migrate away from Flash at all.
