'The Good Wife': What Will Season 4 Bring?

The upcoming fourth season of The Good Wife is bound to open with intrigue. I predict half the viewers will groan, and the other half will cheer. Assuming the hour drama picks up where it left off, Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) is either going to go inside and join her family for dinner or walk away, leaving her estranged husband and two children to enjoy their first meal together in the family's old house. Whatever she does is sure to shape the season's plot lines.
Last year, Alicia had the affair with her boss that the show had been teasing viewers with for two years. The good part of this is that the affair was short lived, lasting just a handful of episodes. The reason for the shortened love story was explained recently co-creator, Robert King, who said:
“As much as you want to cheer on team Alicia/Will, there were a lot of reasons why it was morally corrupt. While we felt good about what it did for drama, I think it split the audience. I knew Julianna was getting [criticism]: ‘Why not call it The Good Slut?’ – Things like that.”
Amen to that! I have watched the drama from the beginning, and as the potential love affair progressed, I wondered how they could go that direction with a name like The Good Wife. In fact, the hubby (Chris Noth) had repented and was on the up and up. He'd paid his dues, and yet, here was Alicia gearing up to do the exact same transgression as her husband. Now what gives her the right to do that? I often questioned it, and the show's title has a lot to do with it.
To me, Alicia became hypocritical. Indeed, I actually like her much less now. As a lawyer, she's excelled, meaning she lies better now. Top that off with her personal life, and somehow, Alicia seems far from the good wife.
My hopes for season four is that the Florrick family reunites totally and the plots go forth without repeating past issues.
As I often say, time will tell.
