'Ice Road Truckers': No Lisa Kelly Equals One Less Viewer

There is one good thing about conflict in television: it sometimes means I have less TV to watch. I set my DVR earlier this evening for the new season of Ice Road Truckers on the History Channel. Seconds into the opening promo, I began to get a funny feeling. First, there were plenty shots of irritant, Hugh Rowland. Second and worse, there were no shots of my favorite, skilled female trucker, Lisa Kelly.

Ice Road TruckersQuickly, I began to search online for a reason to explain her absence. There is actually a lot out there in terms of speculation, but there is little concrete information.

What did pop up are two crucial bits of information. On Lisa Kelly's Facebook page, she wrote today, "As you've seen, I won't be on the show. I want to extend my sincerest appreciation to the History channel. Throughout the seasons I've been on, they've been nothing short of spectacular in their support. I'm still a trucker and I think you've probably not seen the last of me. Most importantly, I want to thank Team Lisa fans. You are nothing short of the most amazing people out there. You've supported me through thick and thin, and I'll still be here, keeping you up to date on all the adventures I am up to. Thanks everyone, and keep on truckin'. Shiny side is up LK"

As you can see, there is no explanation there, just a bunch of thanks and stay tuned. Indeed, the trucker is super busy and doing well, from all reports. She's apparently gone riding in the skies with the Blue Angels even.

Second, I learned about a YouTube video posted a few months ago by ousted trucker, Dave Redmon. I initially liked him during his tenure on an associated IRT program, but when he joined the regular show, it was like he'd had a personality transplant.

Redmon claims much of the show is faked and talked about it some on the You Tube video, along with spilling the beans that Lisa had grown tired of the IRT antics and had quit as well. There has been no confirmation of Redmon's claims that I am aware of except, of course, that he proved to be right as Lisa is nowhere to be found on the new season and she has given no definitive reason for her departure.

Read more on the new season, Lisa's departure, and the Redmon video on this site.

As I said, what Lisa's absence does is free up an hour for me. I did watch the premier episode of IRT and hated it. Lisa gave the show freshness and sincerity. She's the polar opposite of the aggravating Rowland.

If the History Channel is smart, they will resolve whatever issues Lisa Kelly has and get her back for season 7, if there is one. For now, here's a click on my remote control that leaves IRT with one less viewer.

Here's the Dave Redmon video from YouTube:

Hugh and Rick are an absolute embarrassment to trucking. It's a good thing they own their own trucks 'cause no one in their right mind would hire them to drive their truck. We used to like the show, but even Jack Jesse was a bit of a pain Sun. night. He was never such a braggart before. We'll definitely miss Lisa, and even Maya.

Whine Whine Whine. Thats all she did. Did she every complete a run without help from another trucker?

Hugh breaks the law a lot, too. I was so happy when that one owner fired him last season.

Maya was okay, but I wasn't as fond of her as I am of Lisa, who has proven herself over and over again.

As someone who has inside information regarding Lisa Kelly, she did NOT quit driving for Carlile. She simply wanted some time away from the camera's. And regarding Dave Redmon, he is actually as he was portrayed on last seasons episodes.

Yes, I actually read on her Facebook page that she was still driving. Whatever the truth is, I suppose with time we'll find it out. Her time away, whether temporary or permanent, though, means I am not watching IRT. The first season, which did not include her, was interesting because they had that young rookie. I've forgotten his name. Was it TJ, or is that someone else? I just recall that he was very interesting and well liked by viewers. I think he even showed up on Oprah or something. Lisa's been the draw since S2, so without her, I'm just not interested in watching.

Is it just me or are others tired of Phil Kromm ( one of the safety guys from Carlile)? I feel sorry for the new drivers that have to have him ride with them. He has the worse attitude of anyone I have seen in a long time. In his mind no one can measure up to his high standard since he thinks that he is the greatest. Like other viewers I have also noticed that Jack Jessie has gotten a better than thou attitude too. I used to like him until I saw him last week. I hope he doesn't go down hill too because of his popular status.

I think Jack has always had an attitude that we just didn't see. I'm not watching anymore this season, though. No Lisa, no me. In fact, I didn't even think about it being on last Sunday.

ok lisa looks ok, thats about it. fact is she has no special driving skills, its save to say that she should drive an RV without a safety crew following her. what a fake show.

Jack Jesse, What a whiner, always running to management, Austin's driving too fast, Darrel got a load and i didn't or Porkchop didn't stay with me on the run, like the vast majority of these reality "stars" it's went to their head and they really do think they are stars.

History channel saved the worst for last with the return of Hugh and Rick. Can't tolerate the foolishness of these two.
No Lisa Kelly this year? Wow... I'll be watching some other channel. Good bye "truckers".

No Lisa ?? We have no time to watch either.
What happened - was the teeny little pro too much for all those testosterone filled types ??? Nice to know they considered her a threat.

I agree. Hugh & Rick are complete embarrassment to trucking, and myself as a Canadian trucker. Two clowns. Jack Jesse turned into a prick full of himself, and his trainee Austin, is a hot headed, inexperienced little s*** who shouldda waited til he's old enough to at least kinda look like a man, before pretending to be a super trucker. The rest isn't even worth mentioning, except for Alex, who as always, pulls through with a good attitude. I do miss Lisa.

Only watched two episodes of this season, that was enough.Hugh and baby Hugh are still as ****************ing stupid as ever, any surprise there?Maybe to them I guess.Jesse playing god then getting caught with tires falling off by another driver.Hmmmm, all the preaching and all-mightiness then can't figure out why the tires are loose?Any thoughts as to if a proper pre trip was done?Wake up Lane.Austen,my goodness, probably has three hairs on his nuts and maybe two brain cells, one is lost and the other is still looking for it.So scared of chaining up,what a pathetic pussy, get used to it.I could not believe it when last week he loaded the broke down truck on a scissor neck lowbed, bragging and whining the whole time. Why did he have the trailer pinned out? and why was the truck loaded to the very front?Top heavy and very likely to flop over when winching the trailer up and setting it down.Learn how to put the trailer into lowbed position like it should be or stick to winchless work.lAusten, why would you hook a tow rope on another truck and jerk the hell out of it and risk popping a diff or driveline when you have a winch tractor?Dolly off, chain up both axles and use your winch, grab a clue dipshit, you are nowhere near the driver you think you are.Actions speak way louder then words. Do the dispatchers and owners actually pay attention to what is happening?or are they as clueless as the drivers?Porkchop?Enough said, put him on the same run as the two ****************tards ,he will fit right in.Thats it for now.

I think for season 7 they should have for the truckers : Austin Wheeler, Lisa Kelly, Tony Maleski, and one or 2 new rookie's to make it a little more intertaining.. Although i don't think they should go to Hugh Rowland & Rick Yemm because they seem like just dumb drivers not knowing what there doing..

Although my vote mostly for season 7 is Austin Wheeler & Lisa Kelly the best that there is in my opinion.

Leave a comment on who you think should be season 7 drivers Thanks !!
