Today it was announced that Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show has been canceled. Though the show will continue to finish out its second season, meaning new shows will air through the summer of 2013, the option for a third season was not exercised.
The second season of the talk show had gone through a lot of rebranding. Cooper was given a new set and shows were presented live instead of on tape. In addition, a variety of co-hosts were added to lure in viewers. While this did result in a slight upswing, it was not enough to make a significant dent in the much crowded airspace of TV talkers.
I have to admit that I am a bit mixed on the news. In its first season, I tuned in to many of the episodes and enjoyed those I watched. I have to admit that I have not seen a single hour of year two, but the reason for that was not a lack of interest on my part, but rather, a change in time slot. Instead of airing in the afternoons, Anderson was moved to the morning hours in my marketplace. That put it outside of my viewing potential.
Cooper still works for CNN and will continue on his Anderson Cooper 360 series there.
