Has anybody had a problem with getting surround sound out of their set top box from the HDMI port? My receiver intermittently picks up audio and then cuts out.

Sounds like a faulty receiver. Have you contacting Comcast about it?
I don't have HDMI ... yet! My sister has purchased a new TV for me and she says it has this HDMI thing, whatever it is, that is supposed to be extra good. She said she purchased the Upverter or something that allows that. I'm basically clueless about it all.
Which STB are you using (model number)?
Also, just for completeness, what is the model number of the television you're connecting the HDMI cable to?
I have never had a problem. I would definitely call Comcast and see if I can get a new box. I would just tell them it is not working well lately. I am sure they can help you.
