With Comcast and NBC Universal on the verge of becoming one entity, the American Cable Association is estimating that the merger will be a costly event for cable subscribers across the country.According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ACA did a study that claims subscribers will pay at least $2.4 billion more for their TV services unless regulations are be into place to control the power of this joint alliance.
Comcast denies the results of the study, claiming that the study is an attempt to delay the approval of the merger. However, Dr. William Rogerson, professor of economics at Northwestern University who conducted the study, maintains the data is correct and that over a nine year period, the rates will increase. He cites, for example, that the NBC Universal fees will go up by $1.6 billion.
