  • History Channel's 'Hatfields and McCoys' to Air on Memorial Day

The History Channel will air the 3 part miniseries, Hatfields & McCoys, beginning on Memorial Day, May 28th at 8 PM Central time.

Hatfields and McCoysSuperstars Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton play the heads of the Hatfield and McCoy families along with Tom Berenger and Mare Winningham also starring in the miniseries.

The miniseries is based on the legendary feud between the Hatfields of West Virginia and the McCoys of Kentucky. With what began as a friendship between a member of each family around the time of the Civil War, ended in a bloody feud that spanned decades between two families who were intensely loyal to their individual families. A romantic relationship between a Hatfield and McCoy further stoked the flames of the feud.

Ironically, a film that is based on a feud between two families in Appalachia American was filmed in Romania. It is purported that area was selected for the shoot because it resembles Appalachia back in the mid to late 1800’s.

Although the feud between the families was settled long ago, the legend has remained fresh as current members of the Hatfield and McCoy families recall vivid stories told to them by their grandparents and great-grandparents. Descendants of the families are hoping the miniseries stays true to facts and isn’t embellished to make the story-line more interesting.

The History Channel has already begun running promos for the made-for-tv miniseries, including this trailer uploaded to YouTube:
