NBC Developing New Singing Game Show, 'The Winner Is'
A new show has been green-lighted at NBC that can be described as somewhat of a merging of the battle round from The Voice and Let's Make a Deal.
Called The Winner Is, the reality competition show has two vocalists (soloists or groups) battling it out with each other, after which a celebrity judge and others will rate the two privately. The twist that makes this not American Idol or The Voice is that after their performances, the singers are given the opportunity to take the money and run, so to speak.
Indeed, the contestants will be offered a sum of money to leave the competition. So, if they are rotten or just have a bad night and having heard how brilliant the other singer was, a competitor can accept the deal and leave. If they exit the show, they at least have some money. Otherwise, they await the panel's decision and only one will move on.
The contestants are expected to run the gamut of amateurs and professionals in all age ranges, including children, teenagers, adults, senior citizens, and all combinations of family units.
Ultimately, the winner on The Winner Is will receive $1 million.
Not surprisingly, John de Mol, creator of The Voice, will also be the executive producer of this series, which somewhat appropriately is currently labeled as a game show.
