Celebrities and notables are speaking out to support Captain Paul Watson, founder and leader of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society which actively works to obtain a better environment for the world while safeguarding marine life. Currently out on bail, Watson was arrested in May upon entering Germany where he is awaiting extradition to Costa Rica, reportedly due to events that occurred during the 2002 filming of Sharkwater when Watson caught fisherman poaching in Guatemalan waters.
Richard Dean Anderson, star of MacGyver and Stargate SG-1, has been a long time supporter of Sea Shepherd and Watson. He believes strongly in the group's purpose and has participated in their activities several times.
His website includes a plea by Anderson for people to contact the German Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and "politely demand" that they overturn their decision and release Watson. Anderson was also in Germany to attend the science fiction FedCon XXI at which Watson was to appear with him. The video can be seen here: http://www.rdanderson.com/updates/sscs/paulwatson.htm
Animal activist and beloved game show host Bob Barker has also posted a plea for support, as have Pamela Anderson and child star Zach Callison. Paul Mitchell's CEO, John Paul DeJoria, has also filmed his thoughts on the arrest. All of their comments can be found on the Sea Shepherd website.
More information on the situation and comments can be found at here and here.
Germany is expected to respond anytime to the request for Watson's full release.
