Shanks' character, Charlie Harris, ends up in a coma, his body hooked up to a slew of high tech medical devices while his soul or mental self roams the halls of the hospital in which he worked. It is a journey that changes him and his humanity, something that is expected to show up down the road when and if he awakes from his coma.
Meanwhile, Charlie's true love, Alex (Durance), fights to keep her man alive while also continuing to do her job and deal with the return of an ex-lover to the hospital staff.
While the show may stir up images of A Gifted Man, Ghost Whisperer, and other ghostly shows, Saving Hope stands on its own legs. Charlie Harris is not a ghost. In fact, the audience does not know what his situation is, any more than he does.
Filmed in Toronto, Saving Hope also airs on CTV in Canada. The cast is about to start filming the 11th of 13 shows that were initially ordered for the first season. Rounding out the cast are Daniel Gillies, Huse Madhavji, Kristopher Turner, Julia Taylor Ross, and Wendy Crewson.
