  • Rob Lowe, Scott Bakula, and Matt Damon Cast in HBO's Liberace Biopic

The casting continues for the latest biopic dealing with the life of extravagant pianist, Liberace. This one is called Behind the Candelabra and is based on a book written by Scott Thorson, Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace.

LiberaceReportedly, Thorson and Liberace were lovers for about five years before separating. Thorson actually sued the pianist after their breakup. Eventually, a settlement was reached for $95,000, a couple of cars, and a few other items. According to Thorson, the two reunited shortly before the entertainer's death in 1987.

Michael Douglas has been tapped to portray Liberace with Matt Damon on board as the much younger Thorson. Also signed to appear are Debbie Reynolds as Liberace's mom, Frances, and Dan Aykroyd as his agent, Seymour Heller. Earlier this week Rob Lowe was also tapped to appear in the picture, possibly as the flamboyant talent's plastic surgeon with Scott Bakula taking on the role of choreographer Bob Black who introduced Liberace to Thorson.

Today, Cheyenne Jackson, who recurs in 30 Rock, revealed that he, too, has a part in the HBO Films production, though he could not state what character he would be playing.

Behind the Candelabra will be directed by Steven Soderbergh. The TV movie begins shooting towards the end of July. Though originally slated to air in the summer of 2012, at this point it looks like the movie will be shown sometime in 2013.
