Recently, Jonas was also seen in an episode of another reality program, Opening Act. There he was assisting a competitor in dealing with his diabetes, a condition that Jonas has himself, having been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes while on tour in 2005.Last season, Jonas guest starred on two episodes of NBC's hit show, Smash, playing a successful and well to do performer, Lyle West. It is potentially a role he could return to, though there has not been any indication if the character will be back in season two.
The youngest of the three Jonas band members (a fourth brother is actually the baby of the four brothers), Nick Jonas' acting experience includes stage work in Les Miserables in which he was final Gavroche when the Broadway run of the play closed in 2003. Then in 2010, he played the older role of Marius Pontmercy in the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables that starred Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean. The concert was recently aired for a second time on PBS in June. With the long running production rumored to be returning to Broadway in 2014, Jonas could easily play yet a third character in the musical if the fates go his decision.
Meanwhile, Jonas can be seen on The X-Factor when it premiers on September 12. Brother Joe is also currently visible on The Next, another singing reality competition show on which he is a judge, along with Gloria Estefan, John Rich, and Nelly.
