  • DirecTV iPad app now allows live streaming away from home

    Owners of iPads with a DirecTV subscription can take advantage of DirecTV's updated app, allowing them to receive streaming television both inside and now outside of their homes.

The programming lineup includes access to over 60 networks and DirecTV's own Audience Network along with access to shows like the legal thriller Damages and an exclusive series called Call Me Fitz that features Jason Priestly, premiering September 25.

    Upcoming fall programming will feature a documentary series called Something to Talk About and a late-night sports comedy show with comedians Artie Lange and Nick DiPaolo called The Nick and Artie Show.

    There are no additional fees or hardware required for downloading or watching the Audience Network app, though internet usage fees will apply. DirecTV states that an iPhone and Android platforms are expected to be released by the end of 2012.

    An estimated 53.2 million people in the United States will own an iPad by the end of 2012, which is a more than 90 percent increase over past numbers, according to NewMediaTrendWatch.com. Tablets such as the iPad, Kindle Fire and the Android Tablet are not only growing in popularity,
    but the number of services offered on these portable devices is growing as well.
