Jeff Gets a Dad on 'Community', 'Top Chef' Adds Puck, & Macpherson Steps Down on 'Fashion Star'
There is plenty of casting news for the upcoming TV season, both in scripted shows and on reality programming.
One of the biggest stories surrounds the casting of James Brolin in the role of Jeff Winger's father on Community. During the past three seasons, Jeff's dad has been often discussed so finding the right performer to play the part was vital. At one point, Chevy Chase's character even pretended to be the estranged father. Jeff is played by Joel McHale.
Brolin burst onto the scene as Steve Kiley, a young medical specialist lured into being a general practitioner on Marcus Welby MD. Later, he was the star of the ensemble series, Hotel. In that drama, he portrayed Peter McDermott, manager and eventual owner of the St. Gregory Hotel in San Francisco.
Brolin's episode, "Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relations," does not yet have an airdate.
Also, Elle Macpherson has stepped down as the host of Fashion Star, though she is continuing as executive producer. When the second season begins, Louise Roe, who does fashion segments on the entertainment news show Access Hollywood, will take over the hosting duties. Says Macpherson, "I think her presence will energize and surprise."
Elsewhere, another judge has been added to the panel for the new season of Top Chef, referred to as Top Chef: Seattle. Having previously appeared as a judge, renowned chef Wolfgang Puck is joining the regular panel that includes Gail Simmons, Emeril Lagasse, Hugh Acheson, and Tom Colicchio. The Bravo series returns on November 7.
