Google released details on a new, web based based TV product today, Google TV. Details about the new platform were made available at the Google I/O developer conference.
Google TV will be available this Fall in devices from Sony, Logitech, as well as plans for integration with select DirecTV set top boxes. The platform will operate much like a web browser and feature tools for TV watchers including;
- Searching for a specific show or movie and next air dates
- Search results will also include web results
- Search can also be done to include content from Hulu and Amazon
- Captions can be done according to language selection for live TV
Interested consumers who do not want to purchase a new television but want Google TV can purchase a Logitech Companion Box.

TVBarn blogger Aaron Barnhart, mentioned today that KCTV-5 (Kansas City, MO) have made plans to improve their tall broadcast tower. Changes are to be made "soon" to help fix multi-path reception issues for over-the-air viewers. Barnhart's post included a few words from KCTV Director of Engineering, Tom Casey who noted that improvements will also include adding support for future mobile DTV broadcasts.

The Open Mobile Video Coalition, aka OMVC, have begun demonstrating mobile DTV to consumers in the Washington D.C. area last week.
The mobile DTV demonstration is a collaborative effort by nine Washington-area broadcasters and OMVC to showcase the new broadcast technology. Hundreds of select consumers will be provided with mobile DTV equipped products such as: Inspiron Mini 10 netbookw, Samsung Moment mobile phonew, mobile digital TV and portable DVD player combos from LG Electronics, Tivizen Mobile DTV receiver from Valups which receive mobile DTV signals then broadcast to Wi-Fi devices.

Nielsen's Television Audience Report finds that the average American household now has 2.93 TV's up from 2.86 television sets in 2009, yet less Americans are receiving over-the-air broadcasts. When Nielsen originally began tracking over-the-air statistics back in 2008, they estimated that 12% of homes received their TV signals via TV antenna. In 2009, that number dropped to 11%. In 2010, almost 1 year after the over-the-air digital transition, a little more than 9% of households solely receive OTA.

Antennapoint has often been suggested on forums like www.dtvusaforum.com/forum, www.avsforum.com, and www.hometheaterforum.com to help locate TV towers and digital television signals being broadcasted in a specified area.
Although Antennapoint's press release states that Antennas Direct is a "sponsor" of antennapoint.com, a whois search result shows that the domain is registered to www.antennasdirect.com.
