The feud between Pac-12 and DirecTV has disappointed more than a few television consumers, who are now looking for solutions to view their favorite Pac-12 programs. Pac-12 has already encouraged college football fans to switch to a new carrier, especially since DISH, and a few other local carriers, continue to offer Pac-12 programs.

Unfortunately, for the time being, Pac-12 games and programs can only be watched by having a pay TV subscription to Pac-12 partners, which includes Bend Broadband, Bright House Networks, Canby Telco, Comcast, Cox, Crestview Cable, DISH FiOS TV from Frontier, Ranch Murieta, Suddenlink, TCT West, Time Warner Cable, and various over-the-air local broadcasters.

Tensions between satellite service provider DirecTv and the Pac-12 Networks continue to escalate as more and more angry college football fans write letters of complaint about not being able to watch their favorite sports games.

According to Pac-12, over 80,000 customers have written to DirecTv so far, although the company has claimed that one of the reasons it refused to renew the contract with Pac-12 was that there is no significant viewer demand for college football and basketball. In retaliation, Pac-12 continues to urge unsatisfied customers to simply switch providers if they wish to continue viewing the daily sports coverage and over 800 live events that Pac-12 plans to feature each year.

For many TV goers, the DVR has been a savior of sorts. Its ability to record shows, play them back at a later time or date, and fast forward through commercials has proven to be quite a useful tool to those who use it.

A chief complaint among DVR users is that the most of the units manufactured prior to this year do not allow for more than 2 shows to be recorded at once. Another minor issue is saving a show on a family room TV, and then wanting to watch it in another room.

New minor developments in the Pac-12 vs DirecTV dispute have emerged, although the two companies have not yet come to an agreement. According to industry media sources, DirecTV released a statement a few days ago, in which they explained that they are ready to provide Pac-12 programs to subscribers who want it, but the Pac-12 Network needs to agree to some of DirecTV's terms first. DirecTv has asked for better prices that are comparable to those offered by other sports networks, or to allow Pac-12 fans to buy the channels separately or purchase each individual game on demand.

In the meantime, Pac-12 Networks have reached a carriage agreement with telecommunications company SureWest, which serves the Greater Sacramento Valley and the Kansas City region. SureWest is known for recently launching "SureWest Sports Show", which was the first TV program to highlight Sacramento region's youth and high school sports.

Dish Network and Gannett Co were able to agree to terms early Monday morning over a retranmission deal that will allow 22 local broadcast station to continue operating on the satellite providers network. The deal happened in the early hours of the morning without programming interruption, due in part to an extension that had been agreed to by both companies.

Details about the deal remain undisclosed at this time, but Gannett had voiced its concern over the "AutoHop" feature which allowed Dish customers to automatically skip over commercials recorded on their DVRs. Dish is already in a legal battle over the new feature, with major broadcast networks such as Fox, CBS, and ABC.

A blackout could affect DISH customers in as many as 19 cities across the United States, including Washington and Atlanta, resulting in the removal of 22 local TV stations. Discussions have been ongoing for days, however, with Gannett requesting that DISH to remove an ad-skipping feature and asking for a 300 percent increase in broadcast fees.

With a looming deadline, WSJ reports that Dish Network and Gannett Co are in last minute talks to settle a retransmission dispute by midnight this evening.

Gannett is owner of 22 nationwide local affiliates, and if an agreement were reached, it would avert a black out which could affect more than 2 million Dish Network subscribers in 19 cities.
