Life post Hurricane Sandy is beginning to return to some sense of normalcy on the east coast.

After three days of costly closures, the lights on Broadway are coming back to illuminate the nighttime skies. Hurricane Sandy has been the subject of intense reporting by all major news media outlets.

CNN has reporters on site, interviewing law enforcement officials, shelter coordinators, and politicians such as New Jersey governor Chris Christie. The network is also showing videos made by residents of the affected areas, which show dramatic images of homes and businesses under assault from torrents of water pouring into buildings.

The Weather Channel has also made Sandy the focus of its coverage, maintaining live streaming coverage of the events surrounding storm-related events on its website. Hurricane and disaster experts are weighing in with their predictions for how long Sandy will continue to wreak havoc before finally breaking up. One thing is certain: the US east coast will face a long period of recovery as a result of this most unwelcome visitor.

The syndicated success of game shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy rages on with the announcement this week that both series have been renewed through the 2015-2016 television season. The news means that Wheel will last at least through 33 seasons and Jeopardy through its 32nd. What's more, they keep their much beloved hosts as both Pat Sajak and Vanna White have signed on to continue on Wheel while Alex Trebek has also agreed to remain as host, in spite of having suffered a heart attack only months ago.

I am happy for fans of the shows. They are both fairly intelligent gamers with affable hosts. As a member of the TV Generation, though, I must admit that I still have very fond memories for the earlier successful versions of both these programs.

Two new shows continue to generate interest during the 2012 fall season.

First, NBC's new series Chicago Fire began slow in numbers, falling behind it's competition, ABC's Nashville, but it is picking up heat every week. With a rise in the key demographic of adults between the ages of 18 and 49, the network has ordered another five episodes for the drama program.

A couple of key deals between cablers and providers mean more viewing opportunities for fans in various parts of the country.

On October 13, 2012, actor and TV host Gary Collins passed away of natural causes at the Biloxi Regional Medical Center in Mississippi. The 74-year-old moved to the state in 2011 as it was the birth place of his wife, actress Mary Ann Mobley. The couple would have been wed for 45 years this coming November 24.

His first big splash on the TV screen was as Lt. Richard P. 'Rip' Ripley, the role originally played by Jack Lemmon in the movie version of The Wackiest Ship in the Army. The 1965 series only last a season, however. He had a bit more luck the next year, in 1966 when the Dale Robertson western, Iron Horse, hit the airwaves. He was the number two man in this two-season series.

The tragedy of the January 28, 1986 destruction of the United States space shuttle Challenger is engrained in the minds of millions worldwide as evidenced by the recent announcement that the United Kingdom's BBC Two has joined together with the Science Channel to produce a new movie on the investigation into the cause of the disaster that mesmerized the world on that sad day.

Embarking on a much-discussed adventure into space that included taking civilian teacher Christa McAuliffe on board as part of the crew, Challenger shocked all when it exploded just 73 seconds after lift off. A presidential commission was soon engaged in trying to discover the reason for the explosion. It is this quest and specifically the determination of one scientist to find out the truth that the new TV movie focuses on. Indeed, the story is told from this man's point of view.
