Jay,

What part of Arizona are you in? Do you receive TVGOS or PSIP and do you have either the DTVPAL TR-40 or 50 or the DTVPAL dvr?

Thanks for the info. I am receiving PSIP. Have you heard of anyone upgrading to a 1.5tb drive? Does TVGOS generally extend further in the EPG than PSIP, or is there any difference between them.
I've know of others upgrading to the 1tb HDD, but I don't know them personally. TVGOS is a full two (2) weeks of program information while PSIP is only 48 hours.
EDIT: The TVGOS is a full seven (7) days of program information and not the two (2) weeks I stated originally.

I'm in the Phoenix metro area and own the Insignia and RCA converter boxes. No TVGOS, but I think Arizona uses PSIP.

#1 It lists the stations on their correct channels. It also fixed some reboot issues as well as issues with the clock.
#2 I believe the remote for the Dish Network 522 satellite receiver is the same. Look on eBay. You can pick one up for $15.00
#3 It takes up to 48 hours to receive the full two weeks of TVGOS. If your guide shows the TV GUIDE logo in the upper right corner when guide is pressed. You should get a full 8 days of program information. Make sure you have entered your correct Zip Code and wait for 2 days to see if it works. If that doesn't work there are a few other things we can try.

Jay-
I too am in the Phoenix area. Do you ever have any problems getting reception from channels 3 or 15? There have been times where the signal strength has gone from about 80% to 0% and the screen has said it has lost the signal. Channel 3 was like that for about 3-4 hours one night last week but only on the HD signal. I could still receive the analog signal if I used the analog pass through feature either on my Dtvpal dvr or my Dtvpal TR-40 converter box which is located several miles away from my dvr on another tv. I called channel 3 at the time this was happening and they said they weren't having a problem, the picture was showing on their screen. An hour or so later, the HD signal came back and I haven't had that problem since. Channel 15 has done that a couple of times. Have you had this problem with either of these channels before? Also, I have seen HD antennas being sold and was wondering if they are any different than the OTA regular style rooftop antennas.

I'm literally 8 miles from the towers. Bought a Mitsubishi LCD little over a year ago, plugged rabbit ears into it, and had problems receiving with KTVK 3 and PBS 8. That same week I bought a RCA DTA800A for our TV in th bedroom and plugged the same set of rabbit ears into it, and picked up every channel just fine.

My parents had a house in Tempe up until 2006 but they too had a problem picking up KTVK 3. My dad ended up mounting a flat type antenna (like the Antennas Direct DB4) outside on the side of the roof which gave them +1 for reception, -1 for decor, but it did work well.

I've never really looked into why KTVK is a problem channel. Could just be the two houses were in spotty areas...or who knows.

I ended up buying Antennas Direct DB2 for the family room which I reviewed here: http://www.dtvusaforum.com/dtv-recep....html#post7464 I think I also mentioned some of the problems I was having with PBS and KTVK.

How many miles are you from the towers? Have you typed your address into tvfool?

With antennas, the acronym "HDTV" being added to the boxes and product descriptions means nothing really. There are no rules or regulations governings what exactly constitues a HDTV antenna because all antennas (in theory) should be able to receive digital-high definition signals. Some are manufactured to receive UHF signals (but can still receive VHF just fine) and other antennas are manuf. to receive the full spectrum UHF/VHF. In the Phoenix area, all OTA channels are on the UHF frequency so having a UHF/VHF antenna isn't mandatory.

What kind of antenna are you using now?

With the economy the way it is and my dire financial situation, I'm thinking this DTV Pal might not be a bad idea. I just have to wrap my brain around not having cable. I lived most of my life without it. Do I really *need* to have it? It's hard because I'm a TV nut, but maybe going back to another simpler time isn't such a bad idea after all. I like the features of this box.

There is so much to view OTA I haven't missed the cable connection or the billing. Broadcasters have added more subchannels to their lineup with more to come in the future. With cable I would usually watch one station while missing good programming broadcast on another station at the same time. Missing some fairly decent programming. There were days I would just sit zombie like pressing the remote button hoping to catch something to watch (cable fishing). Now because I own a Dish Network DTVPal DVR, I time shift the programming for later viewing. This allows me to catch all my favorite programming. I believe there are many like you and I tired of cable bills. To me it doesn't seem to be a return to the simpler days, but a smarter way of viewing television. Also with the addition of DTV USA forum, you get insight from other DTV USA users like you, about programs currently in the season schedule. Reading some of the posts may enlighten you to a program that you never considered viewing before, therefore expanding your choice of programming. Try it you may like it.
