Closest I can find is Setup>TVGuide and Guide+ which I'm now assuming serves a different function - something about setting up a guide on a tv or vcr.

Maybe the extended TVG doesn't exist on the converter box.
Lurker Lee, Lets go back to the basics. Did you go here RabbitEars.Info and see if your area is listed? Do you have the red TV Guide logo in the upper right hand corner as shown in the picture? Post back and we'll go from there to try and get the guide up and running.

According to rabbitears, my local cbs carries the TVG info. My RabbitEars Info
No, I don't have the TVG logo on my guide page, and my guide has a larger font and fewer cells.
And I've rescanned several times since yesterday.

It's not a huge deal as it relates to the converter box. I'm more concerned about whether I'd be able to get the TVG info if I buy the DVR. So if I "should" be able to get the TVG on the converter box and don't, then I'd have to assume it won't work on the dvr either.

If the TV Guide logo is not on the page, you are not receiving the TVGOS signal. The font size Small/Medium/Large is accessed through the setup menu on the DVR. The font size is not an option on the DTVPal Plus. If you aren't able to get the TVGOS on the DTVPal Plus, I wouldn't expect it on the DTVPal DVR. You can contact the engineering department at your local CBS affiliate. They are pretty good at working with you to figure it out. I talked to the engineers in the Salt Lake City affiliate and they kept me semi updated on the hardware update and other changes they were making to the TVGOS system. Now mine is working. A simple call may give you the confidence to move ahead and purchase the DVR knowing it will work for you in the near future. Hope my post gives you some help.

EDIT: I had to go through the full installation menu to finally get the TV Guide working. I wasn't able to get the TV Guide going with a simple channel scan. I just wanted to clarify this.

Thanks. That does help. At least I know that it should be capable of getting the TVGOS, so I can use that as a "barometer". I've done two complete re-installs with the same result.

I think I'll just keep an eye on it for a few weeks and see how it goes. I suspect the engineer types at that station have enough on their hands for now, if only fielding calls from people are having more presing problems with the transition. I can't buy a dvr for a few more pay periods anyhow, so no point in harrassing the engineers this soon.

Thanks again to everyone who reponded. Another pat on the back!

Default Follow-up

Following up - I never did get the TVG logo on my TV (reminder this is using the DTVPal Plus converter box), despite the fact that rabbitears shows my local cbs station carries TVGOS. So I finally emailed Dish's tech support and got this response
Quote:
Thank you for your email. I would be happy to assist you with your questions today. The DTV Pal Plus is compatible with TVGOS if you have a TVGOS enabled TV. This is because the unit passes the guide information through to the TV instead of providing it through the equipment. If your TV is TVGOS enabled and you have the G-Link cable, then you can setup your DTV Pal Plus for use of this service. Setup information is found in your DTV Pal Plus owner’s manual, and further information about the TVGOS service can be found at www.tvgos.com. Please remember, if your TV is not compatible with TVGOS, this service is not available on your system.
So I guess that's that. I'm assuming that the DVR version has the TVGOS regardless of whether the TV does. (At least I hope so because I'm assuming I can program off of the guide like I can on my Motorola dvr).

Yes, your assumption is correct. The DVR has TVGOS regardless of whether the TV has TVGOS ability or not. That helps me quite a bit. I wasn't able to get the TVGOS on my DTVPal Plus CECB at the cabin, but get it on my DVR at home. The update is much appreciated.

Default Firmware update

The Dish Network DTVPal DVR has released the new firmware update. The newest update is F208. I'm not sure what has changed with the F208 firmware. If anyone knows what has changed, post the information here.

Default firmware 208 out

seems to work fine, some minor differences, tv guide is great since transition i get full week of programming,it is pretty sweet.

i live about 35 miles north of dallas/fort worth and put 20 ft of poles from radioshack on the back of my house with a gable antenna mount, and an RS omnidirectional amplified (flying saucer) antenna up top. i can now get 49 channels from dfw and oklahoma. some are good some are not, and some are there but not broadcasting. channel 10 in oklahoma cbs i believe i can only get at night. i only watch about 25 of them and delete the ones i don't need, but the dtvpal keeps putting them back in the tv guide line up when i am sleeping or away. can i put a stop to this as i have not found a solution here, in the manual, or on the web. got any ideas???????????

read down in this link for some of the new stuff in firmware 208
