The term 'monitor' is really confusing too. a lot of higher-priced Stereo TVs have the term 'Stereo Monitor' on them even though technically, they are a TV (has a tuner) and therefore NOT a monitor(a video display which lacks a tuner and cannot change channels but accepts A/V input). the name 'monitor' has become a moniker if you will, for really feature-filled TV sets even though a handful exist that are
actually monitors with A/V/
HDMI inputs but an analog tuner. those are really called '
HD Monitors' since they have
HD capability but SD reception is analog-only and require a separate tuner/converter to take advantage of the
HD option in the set.
To me, a 'monitor' is the visual display device of a desktop/laptop computer, which displays the output from the machine. not a TV/
HD capable set. or a feature-filled Stereo TV. so the term can be misleading esp to those who are still wondering if they'll be ready for
DTV come June 12th.
Those who do NOT need a converter for
OTA DTV will have badging on the TV set which displays one or more of the following:
HDTV Tuner
HDTV
DTV Tuner
SDTV Tuner
DTV-Ready
ATSC Tuner
Those who
need a converter for OTA viewing of DTV will have one or more of the following icons (not alongside the above compliance labels btw):
HD-Monitor
HD-Ready
HDTV-Capable
HDMI Input
