Question scanning

My RCA converter box has been scanning for over an hour. In the top right corner of the screen is a box that reads " updating". It has a green line that advances then starts over. The screen has the list of channels and if they have been stored. How do I know when it's thru scanning?????

An hour doesn't sound right. Mine took about 5-8 minutes and I live in one of the biggest broadcast markets in the nation. Have you tried turning off the converter and turning it back on?

If this is the RCA DTA800 or 801 it does that. it never finishes the 'scanning' it's always doing that to keep the simple program guide updated. there's a few reviews online which lists that as one of the caveats of the box, although it doesn't cause any harm, just annoying that's all. it's normal.

Basically your box is junk.

Get rid of it and buy yourself a Channel Master CM 7000 box.

Most of the junky boxes will update channels, but when you move the antenna to receive one channel and do a scan, it will loose all the other channels that it no longer receives.

You need to buy a box that will store all the channels you found on the first scan and can repeat scans without loosing the others.

The cheap boxes don't do that.

The RCA is junk?? Did I miss the memo?? Was there a memo? Darnit, who do I have to contact here to get these updates. Seriously though, it's doubtful that the CM is that much better.

The RCA is not a bad box if you have the DTA800b1 I would rate it best of the lower cost boxes, the insignia, zenith and the DTVPAL-PLUS have gain the highest ratings among all reviews across all boards and sites. everyone has a preference as to which box is the best. if the box is still scanning I would unplug it and do a re setup of the box to see if that fixes the problem. as you get more channels it will take longer to scan as it has to check each channel to make sure it is not already logged into memory.

My RCA has just worked fine for me too but compared to my channel master, I can see where MrKnow is coming from. It's amazing how different some of these boxes are considering they all basically do the same thing.
