DTVPal Remote
I just received the DTVPal converter box and the remote does not control the turning off of the tv. Its not the DT40 or the plus but I guess the one in between. What remote would you recomend to get that will turn tv on and off also? My DTVPal DVR remote will control the box. Does anyone no where I could buy the same remote at. Mine is the 5.3 IR 163959. Cant believe they would make a remote that does not have a tv power button.

Use an old Dish satellite remote, it works with both the DTVPal and also has the universal remote functionality.

You can pick one up a new, but previously owned for less than $10.00 in the classified ads.

That's what I found out when I got out my remotes for the dtv pal plus. Actually, it will turn the TV on and off except that my TVs are too old so they aren't in the system. At least, that's what the Geek Squad guy told me. Looking at the remote, I'm not sure where or how it would operate the TV.
New info edited in: Actually, it does not control the TV (it pays to look at the owner's manual). Now, explain to me why the Best Buy guy spent 10 minutes looking for a code? Can I scream again?

Yoy can't use the remote that came with the DTVPal Plus. Like DTVUser2009 stated. You get an old Dish Network remote. Like the remote from the Dish Network 311 receivers.

And they operate a VCR, DVD, AUX, and TV as well. no programming needed for SAT which would be a Dish Network-anything. heck i had a really old Echostar Dish receiver which worked with the DishPro 311 remote lol.
Just for kicks i'm going to see if those old 1980s Zenith TV remotes will turn on/off the Zenith converter out in the shop.

That's great to know. You can't beat that, a lot of these boxes offer no support for universal remote control and etc.

Correction: The Apex box works with a el-cheapo RCA 3-in-1 Universal remote, alas, features such as 'display' and 'Guide' and others such as box volume/mute and signal meters are not available, but it will turn it on/off and change channels.
The same remote ($5 at K-mart) also works the DTVPal+ as well, and it will bring up the menu, and the number keys correspond to the numbered menus (such as '1' for Program Guide) and the LED of the remote blinks when in menu mode, so if you exit the menu for any reason the LED continues to blink until a device key is pressed and allows VOLUME to do the browse banner and CHANNEL Up/Down does channels. out of the menu mode (normal operation) channel up/down does nothing and volume only controls TV volume. 'ENTER' does the display. direct-entry for known channels is available, it would be 04402 for digital channel '44.2'
The codes to program are in the list of 'Satellite/Cable' receivers and it's for 'EchoStar/Dish Network'
Anyone with a Apex or other branded box will have only the Code Search to find it, as most brands such as that one aren't listed in Satellite/Cable box codes.

Lol -- I said that --- my post was edited. Would you like to borrow my glasses? It's really too bad they didn't make them so that they would control the TVs, but that's okay. What's one more remote for the table!
