Which converter box do you own?
It's a poll. Which converter box or converter boxes does everyone own? Try to give a brief summary on each converter after you vote.

I sold my RCA DTA800B and bought my Dish Network DTVPal Plus after joining this forum last year. All through ebay. The EPG was the best reason I upgraded to the Pal Plus. I also own the Tivax STB-T9 which is ok as a second converter on my bedroom TV.

I have owned Magnavox 3rd, Digital Stream and now own DTVPalPlus and DTVPal DVR . I must say the DTVPal brand are best in functions. I am done trying new stuff since I have found in DTVPal what I am looking for. Mag and DS are similar and simple to use however.

DTVPal Plus and Zenith DTT901 for me. Are there any other cecb / digital-to-analog converters coming out? Seems like this list hasn't changed for a while. I'd like to see a dual tuner unit come out, especially now that the dtv coupon program is almost over.

We have the Dish Network DTVPal Plus and the Insignia NS-DXA1. The DTVPal Plus is by far my favorite. Best EPG and great user interface / menu. I receive about the same reception between both units connected to the same antenna. One problem I've been unable to fix with the NS-DXA1 is the humming noise that's emitted from it when it's shut off. It sounds like a high pitched whine. Another annoying item about the NS-DXA1 which I've mentioned before is the status light on the front of it. If you're thinking about putting it in your bedroom, be prepared to place something in front of it to block the annoying red LED light from lighting up the room at night.

Current boxes:
1. Dish DTVPal Plus (best one for living room, unfortunately it doesn't work with reception below 64% on UHF or VHF)
2. Apex (unknown model, whatever Best Buy had; works great and is greatest with low signals down to 25%, unfortunately any menu/guide/display function is hummy)
3. Zenith DTT901b (currently in the shop; half faulty, third one that has the common 'red zone' problem where a great signal is reduced to the red area and causes breakups due to what i think is bad solder joints from rushed production. i have to literally 'smack' it like an old TV to make it work again, afterwards works fine for the duration of shop distraction (noise, love to hear something when i work; not useable for home use or when you are watching that important show, unless you like having the last 5 min cut off))
Failures:
1. DigitalStream model (worked fine but then decided to lose the ability to gain signal at all, was shortly before a house fire which destroyed my home in February so i never got to test it after i had unplugged it)
2. RCA DTA model (had issues from the start, lost signal all the time, had that bad compact disc audio skip when it did lose it, annoying, and then decided to only light the LED but no sign of life on the TV after a reset when it stopped responding)

I owned a Magnavox TB100MG9 which I affectionately referred to it as sh-tinabox because of the poor quality of craftmanship. Sold it and bought a DTV Pal Plus and haven't looked back since. I didn't really need a converter box other than to tinker around with anyway but in some instances, it seems like the Pal Plus outperforms picture quality over my Phillips TV's built in ATSC tuner. Hard to believe I know, but I prefer the Pal Plus' SD over the Phillips TV tuner any day.
