Default Questions on the coupon program, where to find a converter box, and my TV set

I missed applying for the $40 coupon deadline I assume. Can someone please help me out here with my questions because I want to make sure I get everything right before ordering.

1. Is the $40 coupon program definitely over?
2. Where can I find the cheapest converter box?
3. Can I use any converter box? I have an old Magnavox TV from 1997-1998. Is that ok?
4. What additional accessories will I need if I buy a converter box?
5. What kind of antenna will I need?

I appreciate any help with my questions. The TV in question is my Magnavox TV set that I used to watch in my bedroom. It no longer functions as you can imagine and I don't feel like spending another $500 like I did on the HDTV in my family room.

Yes, the coupon program ended on July 31st, 2009. If you applied for a coupon before that date, you can go to https://www.dtv2009.gov/CheckStatus.aspx to check the status of it.

If you don't have a coupon, I'd recommend buying used on eBay.com. Most converter boxes are going for anywhere between $20-$35. Just make sure the sell has good feedback.

If you do have a coupon, I recommend using one of these three sites to purchase a new converter box:

http://www.amazon.com/T3AP-LS-Digita...1248268&sr=1-6
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1214004486850

Any coupon eligible converter box should work fine with your TV. The main item of imprortantance is that your TV set has an input for the converter box to connect to. Most older TVs have a coax input which is fine. Most of the newer TVs have RCA inputs, which converter boxes can connect into also.

4. What additional accessories will I need if I buy a converter box?
Converter boxes come with the necessary wiring to connect them to your TV and antenna. You shouldn't need anything unless your wall outlet is further away than the converter box plug will reach. A $5.00 extension cord would fix that.

What kind of antenna are you using right now? Your old antenna should be just fine for the converter box. I wouldn't spend any extra money getting another antenna until you test your old one out.

Good luck.
