This is an interesting thread.

I've been waiting for the DTVpal dvr because I have OTA. I have that because I'm not home much and work a lot and don't watch that much tv. But, when I am here I'd like to watch some shows that have been recorded, thus the interest in the recorder.

I'm probably going to go the mythtv route ... not sure this isn't a better option anyways ...

My DTVPalDVD purchased from Dish in January 09' died in September 09' about five months after the warrenty expired. Dish can't even tell me where I might be able to get it fixed. Anyone know who/what company makes a business out of fixing these. Mine acts like it lost its power supply as the power on light just does not even turn on.

Echo has been non-reponsive regarding repair inquiries.

Sounds like a bad power supply. Have you tried opening it up yet just to make sure none of the wires have been disconnected from the power supply?

My money's on an internal fuse or reset button, particularly if the failure occurred suddenly.

Much cheaper to replace too, but where would the fuse be located on the DTVPal DVR? Inside the power supply?

It would be either on the power supply's circuit board or in a fuse holder that's flush mounted on the outside of a shielded power supply's metal box. Most such fuses are 1 1/4-inch glass cylinders with metal contacts at each end. The current-handling value is stamped into one of the contacts.

I took DTVPal DVR apart using the 1/8" x 2 inch cotter pins and found two boards, one (Power Supply Board) is a single sided board that has the AC connection, a connector for the HD power, and a connector for the second board a multilayer board. The multilayer board has all the rear panel connections a connection for the HD data cable and a 2 1/2 x 3 x .5 metal box. On the Power supply board there is a fuse in a 3/8 diameter, 1/4 inch high brown/maroon can labled T2.5A 250VAC. A check of the voltages on the board found all to be zero. The 2.5A fuse had great conductibvity

The board is a 164272-02 with a bar code of RR64272T05270L

A little further checking found that the white wire in the power cord made no connection at the plug. Easy enough to fix now I just have to put it all together without wrecking something.
