Default Cancelled Direct TV....here's what our setup will be....

We have a 1995 Toshiba CF27E55 TV that's just keeps on going.

We went with the Zinwell ZAT-970A for our converter and the A-2805 rotating antenna.

Anything I should watch out for? I'm curious if I could hop up on the roof and take off the old DirectTV dish and use the coax to hook up the new antenna.

We also have a VCR and a DVD player. Will I have to buy a splitter?

Thanks for any input or advice.

I'm a new poster here with limited tech knowledge so thanks in advance.

If you can, return that antenna. It is no good.

Enter your address here and post a link to the results page back in this thread, for antenna suggestions. Your address will not display on the results page.

If it's in good condition, reusing the DirecTV coax is a very good idea.

You probably won't need a splitter if you connect a converter box inline with the VCR which will also allow you to record from the converter box to the VCR. If you need more of an explanation on how to do that, we''d be happy to help you out, just let us know.

Here's the results from TV Fool.

We'd only need to pick up the first 6 stations listed.

Thanks for all the quick replies.

If your satellite dish is mounted where the roof isn't blocking a straight shot to the SouthEast, you can remove the dish and reuse the mounting post for an antenna.

This antenna would be a much better choice than the one you posted.

If the DirecTV coax is a straight shot to your TV, connect it to the antenna input and aim the antenna roughly due SouthEast.

That figures.......that's the exact model I almost bought.

I'm going to try the 2805 out and see how it goes. But that will be my next antenna if it doesn't work.

I hopped up on the roof and it looks like 2 bundles of 4 coax cables going into the DTV dish. I'm hoping I can figure out what goes where.

Electrically if it does satisfy you, chances are it won't hold up. None so far here have lasted long at all.

Should I even bother opening the 2805 up or should I just order the EagleAspen antenna?

Depends on if you can return the 2805. If so, I would return it in a heartbeat and order the Eagle Aspen. As Piggie said, the 2805 likely won't last long outside, due to all the non-UV resistant plastic parts on it. And many have reported in several forums that the rotor on the 2805 often quits working.

The Eagle Aspen is mostly metal. The few plastic parts on it are made of tuff, UV-resistant type of plastic.

Thanks for all the advice.

I was able to return the 2805 and I just ordered the Eagle Aspen. Will be here on Wednesday.

I'll post my results when I get things up and running.
