HDTV Question
My friend just moved to a CONDO in the Brownsville?SPI are.
The condo has "Free" digital cable. There are several channels that are missing. When He called TWC they say in order to rent the box He have to pay the full subscription price.
So
1 Does He really have to pay the full price (or did I get a bad rep) since the homeowners association pays a package price?
2. Is there a box that He can just buy and plug in..legally?
3. Are there any other options He can do to get the missing channels?
Thank you in advance.

1. That depends solely on the tenets of the contract that the condominium has with the service provider. Sometimes yes; sometimes no. If you doubt the service provider, ask the condominium board or management company for details, or for a copy of the contract.
2. If he's getting some and not others there are only two possibilities: a) He is missing a QAM tuner; if that's the case, a new television with a QAM tuner might open the door to a few more channels, but probably not many. b) The rest of the channels are encrypted; If that's the case, then yes, he will need either a STB or CableCARD plus CableCARD-equipped host device to receive more channels.
3. He could try to put an antenna and get more channels via over-the-air reception.

Is he missing channels that others in the complex are getting? Or is he comparing his condo channels to a basic service package? If his neighbors are getting the same thing, then it is likely that the condo has gotten a "great" rate because of some channels that they have not included in their package.
If the lost channels are in reference to a basic consumer package, then he will need to pay if he wants more channels.
If, however, the channels he is missing are ones his neighbor has, then a service call is required.
