    Default Fios TV vs. DirecTV

It looks like I now have the opportunity to subscribe to Fios cable TV services in my area.

I've been a DirecTV customer for 1.9 years now, and just finishing up my current 2-year contract.

I can either subscribe again to DirecTV and get their new Genie DVR, or switch to Fios TV. Which is better? Which has the better DVR and HD package?

FiOS HD quality is better. FiOS also works in a power outage, provided you have a backup power source. However if trees damage overhead lines you're outta luck. DirecTV obviously also works during a power outage.

I think DirecTV has the better DVR setup, for now because they have 5 tuners and the mini clients. But DirecTV has whole home DVR so it's not a deal breaker for me.

Honestly if I could get FiOS I would.

Why not give FIOS a try? What do you have to lose? It's a 2 year contract, or you can get it with no contract, too. If you don't like it, then go back to DirecTV after 2 years. DirecTV has their sweetest deals for "new" customers. They will beg you in the mail to come back - I still get offers from them asking me to come back, and I left five years ago!

Verizon's answer to the Genie, the VMS 1100 should be coming out later this year. The last rumor I heard was an August 1st release date, but that may or may not happen.
