Default What 1080p services are available for my TV!

Hello, I have an easy question here I hope but so far I've only been confused by what I've been told.

Is there anyone other than DirecTV offering 1080p shows and movies? When i bought my TV a few months ago, I was told that most of the cable companies were going to start showing some of the 1080p stuff in July but I don't think that's happened yet.

Let me add, that I do know the difference between 1080i and 1080p so I don't need an explanation on that like I got at the place I bought my TV>

Depends on what kind of TV you have. Some of the new 1080p TVs have connections for broadband service that do offer 1080p programming.

Other than that, if you want 1080p movies, I'm pretty sure that Dish Network and DirecTV are the only ones that have a 1080p service.

Some of the newer LG TVs that have broadband connections can get 1080p through Vudu - VUDU - Product - HDX

There are no plans for any cable companies to offer 1080p programming through linear channels. As indicated above, there may be some web-based services (including perhaps some offered through cable companies) that may use that format.

Blu-ray remains the primary means of feeding 1080p content to your 1080p HDTV.

My TV doesn't have a connection for broadband. I do know that it can get 1080p but I guess DirecTV and Dish network are my only choices.

I may buy one now that the prices are finally coming down on the Blu-ray players. My real problem is the cost of the Blu-Ray discs. I don't want to spend a bunch of money buying new ones again. They're like $30 a piece.

That's one of my hangups with Blu-ray too. Price Costco Best Buy have deals on Blu-ray DVDs at times but I'm still waiting to do anything yet because I don't have a TV that can output 1080p.

Yes, unless you have a bluray player.

Everything else will be up converted to 1080p by your TV.
