5 foot would be plenty good. 5 ft at/over the peak that is. 10 ft would be better, but is considerably more difficult to stabilize properly such a large antenna that high up.

You can try the antenna without an amp, and if the signal isnt to your satisfaction (I think that it will be but maybe you want to stabilize some of those lower signal yellows or capture a few more stations down the list) you can always add an amp later.

As to an amplier, could you post your FM Fool?

Here is your FMFool...

I put the height at 20 ft.

You have really strong signals. An amplifier is likely to make things worse as it overloads on multiple strong FM signals.

Try it without one first.

If you want an amplifier you can get the CM 7777, which is highly regarded, and has an integrated FM Trap.

The Winegard 269 has better overload resistance....however it doesnt have an FM Trap. So you would need to add in a seperate FM Trap....and they are getting hard to find. The best one isnt waterproof, so you would need a waterproof housing mast mount box for it. The CM 7777 is simpler.

But try it without the amp first. If it works good for you. Then you can get a Winegard CA 8800 FM Band Seperator and have a fantastic FM antenna too!

With signal strengths fairly close together and all transmitters within a 45-degree arc, you can probably "split the difference" by aiming at about 120 degrees on a compass. However, "your mileage may vary," as the saying goes, thanks to local conditions that TVFool doesn't/can't know about. Final aiming is almost always an exercise in fine tuning using your tuners' signal-level meters for guidance. Couple of tips for doing that:

• Have a friend tune what appears to be the "weakest" channel and read the meter while you do the aiming.

• Communicating by phone is the easiest way to go.

• Be sure back away from the antenna and stand several feet behind it with respect to the signals when judging signal levels. Meter readings won't be accurate otherwise, because you'll be part of the antenna!

Thumbs up Update on wingard hd 7084p Antenna

Just got the Antenna finally installed where I want it and guess what it works great I get all the channels I had before and FINALLY I get the CBS and a lot more channels I didn't get before thanks for all the great help this forum provided to help me choose the right antenna for my needs. gotta say I was scared at first when I generic hooked up my antenna to the mass and had it on the ground I only got my normal local channels but once I got it on the roof and installed rightI got ALL the channels and then some.

One more question if you don't mind well 2 but one doesn't really matter.
1st ? does that black box that hooks up to the antenna and the cable goes to. does it matter what way I put it on only reason I ask is because my antenna looks like it is facing 180º then what it should what I thought was the front is the back is why I ask.
2nd question all my regular channels are 100% and my channels I really wanted are 75 to 80% would a preamp help or put my 100% channels into overload

Once again thanks for the wonderful help and I now can use my directv dvr to record my locals instead of using my dtv converter box and watch it live
