Great to hear things are working out so well!
Question #1: If you're referring to the way the plastic blaun box snaps onto the antenna, it doesn't matter which way it goes as long as there's good metal-to-metal contact between the box and the antenna contacts. Having
any signal level at or close to 100 percent almost always means everything is fine in this regard.
See the attached illustration for guidance on proper aiming.
Question #2: This kind of variation in signal level is normal where stations are in different directions. An amp won't necessarily increase those numbers. There's absolutely nothing to worry about as long as those 75-percent signals don't pause, break up or drop out.
Exception: When summer thunderstorms are about, CBS 5.1 and ABC 8.1 may freeze and blank out. These frequency assignments are highly vulnerable to static interference from electrical storms. This is particularly true of the CBS station. There's no cure except waiting for the storm to move out of the area.
