Default Will this hurt anything? (Pic of setup)

Hey guys,

Sorry for the clueless questions I've been asking, but here's another few.....

I ordered a pre-cut 3 foot RG-6 quad from Solid Signal to run from the pre-amp to the antenna. I was planning on putting the pre-amp two feet below the antenna. Then I saw a few install pics from other people, and realized they put the pre-amp as tight as possible below the antenna.

So....to put the pre-amp as high as possible, a pre-cut 1 foot cable won't reach the antenna connection without stressing the cable (3" too short). I can coil up the 3 footer that I have (in pic), or I could cut the 3 footer down to 15 inches and install my own end on it. (I'd rather not put my own end on it, because I already returned the unused compression tool that I bought earlier.)

So my questions are basically these:

1. Is there any downfall to running 3ft of cable instead of the shortest possible of 15 inches? Does the extra 21 inches of cable really cause any noticeable loss to the pre-amp? Using the 3 footer would save me $24 because I don't need to buy the compression tool and connectors to shorten it to 15 inches.

2. If it turns out that I should cut it to 15 inches, is a crimped end OK to use, or should I get the compression tool (again trying to save the $24)?

3. And lastly, one of the guys at Solid Signal says it can cause problems if you coil your coax like I show in the pic. He said it can actually create a "mini antenna" by having the copper line coiled closely. Doesn't sound right to me, because its quad shielded. But I thought I'd ask you guys anyways......Will leaving it coiled cause any issues?

Thanks!!

Just use the 3 footer you already have....1 foot wont make that much difference in line losses.

Coiling the cable creates problems....dont do it unless you are doing it for a specific purpose....like creating a matching transformer or antenna with it.

15" or 3' shouldn't make any discernible difference. Far as the loop goes while I've never heard of that there could be something to it.

BTW I'm pretty sure Radio Shack sales 1' & 2' cables that should work fine if you choose to go that route.

That's what SS said to me. I guess I was figuring the shielding would stop that.

Looks like the best bet is to just lower the pre-amp down a bit until I lose the loop.

The problem I saw with Radio Shack (at least what was in stock that the store I stopped at) was their stuff wasn't solid copper core.
