Default NBC in DC

Hi-

I have had pretty good reception since getting my DTV box and am able to pick up a large number of channels. But this weekend, all of a sudden I lost all three NBC channels. I have moved around my inside antenna and it still says no signal. All of the other channels were unaffected. Any idea what happened?

Thanks
Karen

As usual, we need to know a few more things before we can offer any more than very general ideas:

• Is the ABC affiliate on channel 7 unchanged?

• Describe your antenna. Is it a pair of "rabbit ears" with a loop in the middle, or some other design?

• Is the antenna amplified -- i..e., does it need power from a wall outlet?

• An idea of how far you're located from the TV stations' transmitters would be extremely helpful. Visit TVFool, input an address, and then provide the link following "this page can be referenced as" (the info starting with "?option=" is the essential part) in a follow-up post. TVFool reports omit street addresses to protect privacy.

If you do have rabbit ears, try this:

1) Flatten both dipole "whips" so that they're horizontal (parallel to the floor).

2) Extend each whip to a length of 16 inches. Equal lengths are important.

3) Raise both dipoles so that they resemble a "V" to about halfway between horizontal and vertical.

4) Leave the dipoles at this position and length as you try different positions in the room.

This length and whip position "tunes" the antenna to the wavelengths of both channels 7 and 9.

WRC spent a few hours off the air on Sunday. You might need to rescan to bring it in again.

Very odd that WRC scheduled routine transmitter maintenance during the day.
