Sony 52" XBR TV

In February of 2004 I purchased a Sony 52" XBR (LCD) TV and I'm hoping it's
digital capable but short of going back to the store that I purchased it from,
I'm having trouble figuring this out. The television is not a flat screen that can
be mounted on the wall but it is HD capable.
I currently subscribe to Comcast basic cable and just this week some of the
channels began to disappear, which leads me to believe either the television
is not digital capable or the cable company is pulling a fast one. Comcast
has placed a notice on the lost channels that a digital device will be needed to view that channel and that channels 32-71 will also be removed on January 28th.
It was my understanding, after all the research that I've done, that a cable
subscriber wouldn't even have to worry about the transition to digital. At least that's the information Comcast has spread over the last few months.
I'm sure you'll tell me I need to go back to the store(Video Only)where I purchased the television and/or call Comcast but I'm also hopeful you'll have some answers. Thanks!

Yeah on our TV with comcast, I noticed that they are getting rid of alot of channels on the Analog service.

They took away all the news channels like MSNBC, and it shows a blue screen now.

Are they changing the lineup again? any source for that jan 28 comment?

most tvs made after 2007 have digital tuners but older ones may not have them if it does not state it in the users guide or on the tv it is probably not digital and will need a converter box, cable does not have to go digital until 2011 but it is up to each company when they do it. wow how lucky can you get they took MSNBC away must have looked at their ratings and found they were being ripped off.

I finally found the user guide for my Sony LCD TV which I purchased in 2004
and guess what?...it is definately analog...bummer!!, bummer!!, bummer!!
I also called Comcast to find out what was going on with the removal of a
large portion of the cable channels. Apparently, customers need a digital device to keep receiving the channels which have and will disappear but not
just any device, it has to be the Comcast converter...what a surprise!!, not!!
Comcast claims there won't be any charge for the device, for the first year.
Again, no surprise but rather a BIG disappointment. I honestly thought cable
was expensive enough but apparently Comcast doesn't agree.
The only reason I hooked up with the cable company years ago was because
our reception in this area is so lousey and cable seemed the best way to go.
All of this makes me long for "the good old days" when all one needed was a
television with a place to plug it in. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate all
the technology and the benefits but sometimes simplicity is a great thing.

they took away more then that, almost everything has a blue screen now that says ibasically if you want this channel subscribe to the higher package

get a good outdoor antenna a converter box and kiss cable good by unless you need all the premium channels OTA has the best HD out there bar none.

I love all of the commercials that Comcast has run lately. "If you have Comcast cable, you'll be safe for the digital transition", or something along those lines. hah. What a joke. Some of the cable-satellite TV boards are starting to fill with questions like, "Why are my channels disappearing from my basic lineup?" Cable companies stand to gain a lot of $ over the next few months.
