That's correct, even if I unplug the converter box, I get receiption. NBC12 comes in ROCK SOLID on the LCD. I experimented with the setup again today, I hooked the antenna straight into the LCD, no 23, thru the box and 23 comes in. WCVW PBS 57 doesn't come in all on the LCD with or without the box. When switch over the SDTV with the converter box and the LCD on channel 3, WCVW 57 comes in around 45% to 40%.

Does the converter box itself pick up PBS 57? I would think PBS 57 should come in somewhat better for you, since their signal strength is similar to PBS 23.

PBS 57 comes in here well many nights, even with another closer station sharing the same frequency (RF 44). Incredibly, WRIC-8 comes in most every night, & will blip in during the day many times. I'm not sure why it comes so well here 99 miles away???

Yes the converter box will pickup PBS 57 with the occasional drop out during rain. I believe PBS 57 is running lower power than PBS 23. Channels 6, 8, 23, 35 & 57 broadcast from the same site. 57 running the lowest power of the 5 channels. I noticed that 23 & 57 are pretty close in frequency as 65. I wonder what you said earlier, if 65 was interfering with 23 & 57 on the LCD with the pre-amp? 65 is only coming in at 85-90% according to the converter box signal strength meter, would it have to be 100% in order for it to interfer, just curious.

Not necessarily. Some meters won't read 100% no matter how strong the signals are. The Zenith DTT-901 is like that.

Do either of the PBS stations have HD programming? I've never seen anything widescreen on PBS 57. It seems odd that there are 2 different PBS stations running off of the same tower.

WCVW dates to the days of analog. Without subchannels, WCVE needed a second analog station to do separate programming. Thus, WCVW was born back in the 1960's. WCVE does provide HD programming on 23-1, the PBS East HD feed straight off the satellite dish, in fact. Their ex-analog programming is on 23-2, and 23-3 features MHz WorldView (as seen on WNVC 30-1 in the DC area). I won't be surprised if at some point in the future, they try to sell off WCVW and move the current 23-2 to HD on 23-1, moving WCVW's lineup to 23-2.

I concur, it sounds like the WUPV signal is causing overload which is drowning out WCVE. If that is the case, the attenuation of the converter box is making it work for you.

CBS 6 85%
ABC 8 85%

I purchase a new LCD Polaroid model TLA-01515B. When I hooked it up I couldn't receive PBS 23 at all. So I hooked the converter box back up and I still had a 60-70% signal. So through the course of experimenting, I used the pass-thru feature of the converter box with a quick-connect jumper from the box to the LCD TV with the converter box off. Now PBS 23 comes in! Just to be sure, I hooked the antenna directly back to the LCD TV, no PBS 23. So as a permenant install, I took a short rg-6 jumper from the box to the TV, no pbs 23. So I used the quick-connect jumper and now I have pbs 23. Has anyone else experienced a situation like this?
Problem solved. I purchased a different model LCD TV and it receives everything the converter box did. Something must be wrong with the Polaroid tuner.

It's amazing how much of a difference there is between digital tuners and their reception capabilities.
