Why can't my TV with ATSC tuner does not receive dtv channels
I purchased a Insignia NS-LTDVD19 with a Digital ATSC tuner mainly because I did not want to go through the hassle of a converter box and the sales guy at the store said that this TV will automatically pick digital signals, but now when the TV stations have shut down digital my TV is receiving only 1 digital channel, when I called Bestbuy they said that though I have the tuner I still need a converter box to receive these digital signals. How far is this true?

The Insignia NS-LTDVD1 contains both an analog and digital TV tuner. The BestBuy sales clerk is wrong, you will not need a converter box for your TV.
Your problem might be with switching from the analog tuner to the digital tuner. You can do this by pressing the input (sometimes called "source") button on your remote, and selecting "digital tuner" or " ATSC tuner". You will then need to do an auto channel scan, which will tune in and set the digital channels you can receive into the tuners memory.
Do you have an antenna connected to your TV?

Have the same problem here, with the same model [actually the Insignia "NS-LCD19"]; tried the "input" selection, applying "video1 composite" and even the " HDMI" option, but was still not making any progress.

Like Jay has stated you don't need a converter box. This TV includes a cable tuner and an over the air tuner. Make sure you switch through the tuner selector until you are on TV and not cable. You can scan for channels from that point and get the OTA DTV stations programed.

Ralpha, Welcome to the DTVUSA Forum. You want to change the tuner not the input. Go into the setup menu and change the tuner settings to TV.

Thanks for the tip 1inxs. I had tried the very thing you just mentioned [applying the "input" function of the TV remote control], and for a minute, I was able to get a few more channels, actually clear ones [about 4 or so; I don't have cable TV], but then I suddenly seemed to have lost them shortly thereafter. This urged me to click on the "menu" function of my TV's remote control, and select the " DTV signal" option under the "Setup" sub-menu, to see what's going on here. A meter of some sort is thereby displayed, with a pointer treading back and forth between the "weak" and the "normal" segments of the meter. What do you suppose is the problem here?

Your issue sounds to be an antenna problem. Do you know how to use TV Fool to get the direction for aiming your antenna? Click on TV Fool and enter your address. It should give you an idea if the antenna needs adjusting. Copy the URL at the top of the TV Fool screen after your information is input and paste it in your reply post back here.

Well, here is the list that was generated from the information I provided in that "TV Fool" link: TV Fool
I have now lost all channels. Just to be clear, under the "input" function of the TV's remote control, does one select the "video 1 (composit)", "video 2 (S-Video)", "video 3 (component)", "video 3 ( VGA - computer)", or "video 5 ( HDMI)". I gather the two logical options in my case were either "video 1" or "video 5", and If memory serves me correctly, it was under "video 5" that I was able to just momentarily receive the aforementioned additional channels. A quick head's up will be appreciated.

Rapha, what kind of antenna are you using? A lot of your stations are VHF and less then 20 miles away, though very attainable with a good indoor UHF/VHF antenna.

I'm not sure; I simply hook up my TV to the outlet for a 75 ohm cable.
