Default Weak signal message

We recently bought a home in rural SW New Mexico and bought a DTX9950 converter box. There is a large, old rooftop antenna on our house. We cannot pick up any channels with the converter box. We get a "Weak Signal" message when using the box and it will not autoscan any stations into the program. When we turn the box off, we can pick up a few stations without the box although they are very fuzzy. Any advice on what to do?

Thanks.

So you connected the roof antenna to the converter, right? Could there be any loose connections?

We'll need to know your zip code so we can plug it into tvfool.com and get a approximate distance from broadcast towers to your house.

Thanks for the listing.

Yes, we have the antenna hooked to the converter box, but we are over 70 miles from Las Cruces with Cookes Peak and other smaller mtns around us. So, it seems like we are some of the unfortunate ones that just the converter box with an antenna will not help.

You can contact your county engineer. They will tell you which way to direct your antenna. It's likely you receive the signal from a county operated translator tower.

do you have roof access? and a compass? You should try aiming your antenna in the right direction.

Aiming is a critical factor. It needs to be pointed right.

Just keep turning it right until it's right.

We can maybe help with the direction of pointing the antenna 55airstream, but you'll need to input your information at tvfool.com and you'll also need a compass. Or as 1inxs mentioned, try contacting one of your local station engineers or translator engineer.

Geez this 'pointing' talk reminds me of Dish Network! DTV is sounding more like Satellite TV every day. just as hard to find the right spot and keep it there.

They need to make a converter which shows the best signal for ALL channels instead of the one currently selected. because fixing one channel makes the others go belly-up unless you're lucky enough to have one which pulls em all in.
