Default Is it possible to get Fringe VHF

I'm talking about 100+ miles. I've got one pesky station broadcasting at low VHF and my Channel Master 4220 won't pick it up. I've tried to manually aim the antenna before picking up a rotor and no luck. What should I do? Add second antenna?

A channel master 4220 has no gain at all on VHF.

Post your TVFool plot here and lets see how much signal you have.

TV Fool

Then post the link to your plot back here.

100 miles is a long way unless you and the transmitter are both on mountains and can see each other Line of Sight.

100 miles, VHF digital, forget it. ERP's are too weak as well.

Don't be so quick to toss it out. I've gotten UHF with an indoor antenna at 93 miles due to terrain considerations. While lightning will undoubtedly interfere, on good days it might be usable, if the power level is high enough.

Where are you located, and what station is it that you're attempting to receive? Run a TVFool plot and post the link it provides here, and we'll have a look.

Never picked up a low band VHF signal and only once picked up a signal from high band VHF. That was a channel 8 which must have been from either Lima, Ohio or Louisville, Ky. Those cities have the only stations anywhere near here that broadcast on that frequency.

BTW, I use only bow tie antennas too but if the signals strong enough, you can pick the channel up with something like a paper clip pluged into your tv's 75 ohm input. We can do that with analog channel 7 here in the Dayton area.

Are you sure the channel isn't a low powered local?

low VHF would take a huge antenna with a channel master 7777 pre amp at about 100 ft high but at 75 100 ft it can be done but not reliably 100 miles and over is considered dx reception and requires some work to get.

Exactly.

If the signals being picked up all the time it's gotta' be something local. Maybe 30 miles away or so.

It varies with terrain. My "local" stations are 79 miles away. Outside of the low-VHF one (and that's a separate issue), they're in 99% or more of the time.

Similar story for folks 90 miles or more out in my area. That's the benefit of having the stations up on a mountain.

That's why we need to know which station in particular this person is trying to receive. It may be doable depending on the specific conditions.

Then I guess it's YMMV.
