Default antenna question

I live out in Riverside cty. I have Time Warners cable on my tv right now but only in my living room . But up stairs I dont have any type of cable and I use a regular antenna up stairs with my regular TV. Now with this new box that is being sold to be able to watch TV. Will my regular TV look more clear with this box then a regular antenna. or will I still have problems being able to get channels because of the distance from TV stations. Right now with my regular antiena, it is hard to get channels. And time Warners will not runn wires up stairs because im a renter. So please let me know thank you. Martha

Welcome to the DTVUSA Forum. It doesn't take much experience to run a temporary coaxial cable to the upstairs without causing damage or violating your lease. If the lack of a coaxial cable upstairs is preferable to you, I would purchase the cable and have a friend or family member surface mount the cable to the upstairs TV. Warner may require a monthly fee for the addition of a second cable box.

If you would prefer to use an indoor antenna, you should be able to receive the signal unless you are behind a building, tower or other obstruction. This is based on TV Fool

Yeah, if running a cable company cable up to the room isn't an option, you'll get a ton of channels with a converter box and a indoor antenna. The link that 1inxs attached shows channels with a green background and those are the ones you should be able to receive. I'm in LA, CA and I get upwards of around 25 or so channels (quite a few are foreign language channels bu none the less we seem to have more programming available over-the-air than anyone else in the country).

In addition to the idea of running the cable upstairs yourself.

Depending on the style of antenna you have now, there maybe a better one to use along with a converter box to watch over the air TV.

Digital is clears with a catch, the signal has to be strong enough to what they call lock. Most of the time if you watched channels a little snowy but still in color, then there is enough signal with your current antenna to see digital.

What kind of antenna are you using upstairs now?

digital television is crystal clear, no ghosts or snow. IF you have a hard time getting stuff to come in, i'd try another antenna. Depends how far you are.
