WJLA and WUSA in Washington: Updates

More information for WJLA and WUSA in the Washington area and their switch from UHF to VHF.

WJLA Washington continues to have some pockets of problems with DTV reception, but the calls have tapered off and some are being addressed via the FCC's double-scanning solution.
Information about the doublescan can be found at HTNut's post here - http://www.dtvusaforum.com/dtv-news-...escanning.html

That is according to Jerald Fritz, Allbritton's senior vice president, who said, "We have a few isolated things... We're taking care of them one at a time and we think the problem is dissipated." And if problems persist, he said, the station can still look to the FCC for some help.
Both WJLA and WUSA Washington, which also went from a U to a V, had been the subject of a Washington Post article about reception problems.
"We are have a of people double-scan [unplug the converter box or TV And rescan] and then there are people who didn't realize they had to get a VHF antenna." Fritz says that has appeared to clear up "a lot of things."

... then there are people who didn't realize they had to get a VHF antenna.
Realize?? They were never told in most cities the stations were going back to VHF.

    Should be.

"... then there are people who weren't ever told they had to get a VHF antenna."

    Even better:

"... Despite losing viewers and complaints to the FCC many stations never to inform their viewers they would need a VHF antenna to continue watching their channel. All this despite millions spend on the transition followed by their loss of advertising revenue."
The more I understand, the less I know.

If it were from some local news outlet, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt for not knowing enough about that, but this is multichannel.com we're talking about here. Edit: Wait now that I remember, the FCC did tell people about UHF to VHF Piggie! 1 week before the digital transition! http://www.dtvusaforum.com/everythin...g-weekend.html

The UHF to VHF switch should have had it's own transition rather than switch on June 12. That way the FCC could have had time to prepare everyone for that too. Just my $.02.
