Craig Converter Box 508
I recently purchased a Craig Converter Box 508. I connected it with no difficulty and it played beautifully at first. After 10-15 minutes I began getting a noise that sounds like a record does when it has a scratch on it, just a repeating sound, and the picture freezes up. When this happens, the box won't let me change the volume or the station. When I wait, it never clears up. If I turn the box off, wait a minute, and turn it back on again, it will play for one or two minutes then freeze up again. I have tried connecting it to another TV that I have had no problems with, changing the cables/wires and changing the antenna but nothing seems to work. I have called the Call FCC number and was told it sounds like I have a defective box. Call FCC suggested I call the toll-free # provided in my instruction manual but I only get a recording with no option to speak to a representative. I notice that other Forum members have had problems with audio/volume but nothing like my problem. Can anyone out there help me?

Electronics go bad, and the most likely time for it to happen is within the first week or so after purchase and installation. That's why stores have return policies. It should be returned to the store where it was purchased along with the receipt, box and packing materials, and exchanged for another converter box. We'll leave it up to your best judgment as to whether the replacement is the same make and model, or a competing box .

DawnTV56, Welcome to the DTVUSA Forum. I agree with Don. Definitely return the CECB to the retailer as soon as you can. Most retailers allow 30 days for return on electronics. I would exchange it for another make and model CECB if the retailer gives you a choice. Enjoy the forum.

Aren't the CECB manufactures required to warranty the converter boxes too for like a year? Just in case she's past the 30 day store return policy?

You'd think all of them would do this to build brand loyalty and goodwill. As things stand, though, it can be tough to get a warranty honored when the maker's 800-number decision tree keeps stranding you in "Outer Mongolia:"
