I think you might be better off buying something like an RCA ANT-111 with uhf loop/vhf dipoles. They're about 7 bucks at walmart.

An antenna that has proven itself in urban areas with the transmitters close, of which Chicago is a text book example is the Terk HDTVi (Non-Amplified).
Newegg.com - TERK HDTVi Directional indoor UHF/VHF HDTV antenna

It will provide some UHF gain and directionality to help eliminate multipath.

i do not think it is the antenna... i was getting the channel perfect until about 10 days or so ago... so well after the transition on 6/12/09... now i get it in the morning and sometimes not in the afternoon or evening...

also why else would channel 9 raising there antenna if they are not getting interference from another station, like channel 26

as for 26's the signal has gotten worse... they must be doing something internal with the new antenna and this is causing the problem

pleasse help

Trip covered the probable cause for 26, there is another station on the same actual channel 27, in South Bend. It's probably co-channel interference. You are also close enough to several channels you are getting third order harmonic interference in your receiver. WLS will soon be on Ch 32 which should help.

I still think for at least the ch26 problem a directional indoor antenna would help reject some of the signal from South Bend. It's a remote but real possibility that a different converter box would improve some of what might be third order interference.

I also think from the time of day you are saying you receive and don't receive stations you are seeing tropo bringing in stations better or more interference from out of town.

Again a more directional indoor antenna is normally the next thing to try.

piggie:

thank you for your info...

just curious do we have a date on channel 7 going to rf 32??? has the fcc approved and has the construction begun....

as for channel 9.. i am concerned as i said i was getting it from last fall past june 12 th until july 3 without any problem at any time of the day or night... now i am having a problem just late afternoon and early evening... after say 9 pm the problem goes away again until about 3 pm the next day...

also why is channel 9 lowering its power from 650 kw to 600 kw and putting there antenna at a higher level... could this be to fix the problem... this also was to be done this summer....

as for channel 26... you probably are right... this is why they are putting in a new antenna with vertical polorzation to help with people who live in stone buildings and high rises... but i know people who live in single family houses in skokie, morton grove and glenview that have rooftop antennas and are having the same issue with the same two stations....

i have tried different indoor directional antennas... the signals get worse...
also it is not the box, every other chicago station, stations from indiana and michigan come in better then these 3 stations

piggie, thanks again.... love to hear others thoughts... maybe someone from channel 9 and 26 if they are on this thread.....

WLS has applied but not approved for ch 32 yet, but probably will.
WGN is going 100 ft higher which is more significant than losing 45KW. They are changing the antenna. So they might be on their temp antenna while they are changing.

Think of the good side. Where I live CW is a subchannel in SD. NBC though I have 3 choices, none of them are there all the time. MyN here is also just an SD sub.

If I lost 2 stations I would loose 25% of what I pick up here.

thanks for the great insight... why then is channel 9 raising there antenna.. do you think that will help with my signal issues in a high rise??

i have to admit... i left them a voice mail tuesday evening and guess what it was perfect yesterday afternoon, night and this morning before i left for work... go figure...

please keep me in the loop with channels 7, 26 and there substations

My TV has the converter box inside of it. How do I raise my signal so I can receive digital channels?

The TV doesn't have an antenna. It's plugged in through our cable. Its a brand new plasma so it has the dtv converter inside of it already. I had the channels previously and then all of a sudden 2 days ago they all disappeared. I miss my universal sports and metoo marathon channel. The cable company kept telling me I was on analog but that doesn't explain how I was getting the channels before. Any other suggestions? I appreciate the help!
