Wait, I thought the issue was that the (possibly foam-filled) twin-lead *from* the antenna had some sort of lock-washer terminals attached and that Orrymain wasn't sure how to get those attached to the screw terminals on the 300-to-75 connector.

I was about to recommend tin snips to turn the rings into spade lugs.

It sounds like he needs to just cut that off and start over. Too hard to tell from here.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like this is beyond me. I don't know anything about stripping, and there's just one flat lead in from the antenna (I don't know about foam-filled - this is just a flat 30 year old wire). There's no way I can do this myself so I'm stuck with my tiling, lousy picture until the miracle happens when I can afford an antenna guy out here. I do appreciate the suggestions and attempt for all who responded.
