Default Hi Bad reception on VHF HD Stations

Hi Everyone,

My name is Matt. I am new to this forum. And I have a problem receiving HD VHF TV stations. I own the Mertostar MS2000 UHF/VHF aplified omnidirectional antenna. I couldn't receive most of the HD TV stations in my area after they decided to transmit in the VHF spectrum.

When all of the HD TV stations were transmitting on UHF I received them all with no problems at all. But once the tv stations decided to switch to VHF I decided to rescan so I could pick up the VHF HD channels. But when I scanned for channels it couldnt find the new hd vhf channels. I don't now why I cannot recieve the VHF channels. I don't know if maybe my antenna is only a UHF antenna or if the VHF portion of my antenna isn't stong enough to pick up VHF hd channels. I hope I don't have to buy a new omnidirectional amplified antenna becuase I spent over $70 for my current antenna. And cannot afford to buy a new one right now. I can only receive 2 hd chanels becuase they are still broadcasting on UHF. And as I said the rest are on vhf.

So, if anyone can help me on this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

Welcome to the forum Matt, hope you don't mind I moved your thread to the reception area.

We're probably going to need your www.tvfool.com results before we can give you a few ideas on how to help with your reception.

TVFool will help us figure out how far you are from broadcast towers and let you know which channels you should be able to receive. Once you've input your address and approximate antenna height (for an indoor antenna, I'd put 5' or less), copy and paste the results page here along with which channels you're looking to receive.

That antenna is rated for VHF, but it's not that good at VHF and Winegard warns it's for very strong signal areas. http://www.winegard.com/kbase/upload/MS-2000.pdf

On channels 7-13 you need to rotate it for maximum signal.

As Jay says above, go to TVFool and put in how high your antenna is otherwise it defaults to 30 ft in the sky. Then post that link back here.

There is "some" chance, a $10 pair of rabbit ears may very well solve your problem, or maybe not.

Is the antenna outside? Inside?
